Valerie Zimbrich, Lead Receptionist

Valerie Zimbrich

Valerie is a third generation Alaskan. Having grown up in Haines, her family bought the Skagway Inn in 1989 and operated it for three years before selling. Valerie left Alaska for eight years, mostly working in downtown Seattle. She returned to Alaska and spent seven years working with her father at his heating and plumbing business, E-Z Mechanical, until he passed away in March of 2010.

Valerie’s employment as lead receptionist with Dahl Memorial Clinic began in December 2010. Every visitor to the DMC will know of Valerie’s positive attitude and enthusiasm, and undoubtedly feel her passion for helping the people of Skagway. “I really care about the folks that come through the clinic doors,” Val told us, “I really feel that my job is to make it so that the patients’ first thought is not, ‘I can’t go in there because I owe money,’ or ‘That person behind the desk makes me feel uncomfortable.’ If a patient were ever having trouble with paperwork it is always a pleasure to help.”

Val believes that the seniors in this community have given the most over the years and fought to get this beautiful facility. In the 12 years Val has been with the clinic, she has seen the ups and downs, staff and providers who come and go, but it is the old folks who visit that keep her working passionately at DMC.

In her personal time, Val enjoys collecting interesting shiny stones in hobby shops or when on walks with her pups. She likes to color in coloring books and enjoys gardening.
