Come drop off your unused, expired or leftover medications and we will dispose of them for you! Or pick up a medication disposal bag to take home!

As part of starting the new year safely and responsibly, we encourage patients to take time to review and dispose of medications they no longer use or need. Unused, expired, or leftover medications can pose safety risks in the home and should not be thrown in the trash or flushed down the toilet.

Why get rid of medications you don’t use anymore?

It reduces the risk of accidental ingestion by children or pets, prevents medication errors and confusion, lowers the risk of misuse or diversion, and promotes a safer home environment.

How is Dahl Memorial Clinic Helping?

We have free medication disposal bags available. Patients may stop by the clinic to pick up medication disposal bags. Please ask for the size that best fits your needs: Small: up to 15 pills, 2 oz. liquid, or 2 patches, Medium: up to 45 pills, 6 oz. liquid, or 6 patches, Large: up to 90 pills, 12 oz. liquid, or 12 patches. Our staff can help you choose the appropriate size and answer any questions you may have about how to use the disposal bags.

Why you should NOT throw medications in the trash or toilet?

It is important to not throw medications in the trash or in the toilet as they can contaminate water systems and harm wildlife. Trash disposal increases the risk of accidental ingestion and some medications can leak or break down in landfills.

If you are unsure whether a medication should be kept or disposed of, clinic staff are happy to help review it with you. If you have medications that you are not sure you should be taking anymore or are confused, schedule a visit with your provider to review.
